- Are we sustainable with regard to our cultural values and consumption patterns?

- How do we challenge traditional family forms to include non-traditional living arrangements?

- Can we minimize private spaces to create more shared areas?

The project aims to address some of these questions by transforming existing single-family houses into flexible and adaptable co-housing communities that can accommodate more users.

The project challenges the static nature of a single-family house as a typology and instead proposes the densification of existing single-family houses by converting existing houses into a five-family home as a prototype. This new prototype allows for various configurations of family types with different ages, races, gender identities, backgrounds, and abilities.

The new co-housing community also allows for further subdivision of the property plot to add a flexible structure organized to suit different households and working conditions. The existing property boundaries can be further subdivided or shared to offer communal gardens, facilities, temporary housing for students, refugees, and more.
